Dr. Scott Athans specializes in pediatric and family optometry, as well as, contact lenses and eye disease. Dr. Athans is a native of Moore County. He graduated with honors from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in May 1993. Dr. Athans lectures on Ocular Urgencies and Emergencies, Maintaining Good Vision as You Grow Older, and Childhood Eye Diseases. Dr. Athans currently is the President of the NC Optometric Society and is a member of the American Optometric Association, the North Carolina Optometric Society, and the Eastern District Optometric Society. He is also a member of the Gold Key international Optometric Honor Society and received citations for Clinical Excellence in Primary Care and Pediatrics. Dr. Athans and his wife, Patricia, have four children and live in Whispering Pines.
Dr. Kenny Bumgarner offers eyecare for all members of the family from pediatric to geriatric as well as contact lenses and eye disease. Dr. Bumgarner graduated in 1981 from Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He has authored several clinical publications and is highly regarded on the lecture circuit, both locally and nationally, on topics including glaucoma, surgical cataract complications, conjunctivitis and low vision. Dr. Bumgarner has served as an adjunct faculty member of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, the North Carolina State Optometric Society, and the Eastern District Optometric Society. Recently, Dr. Bumgarner was awarded Clinical Practitioner of the year by the North Carolina Optometric Society. Dr. Bumgarner has had several special appointments over the years which include a member of the Board of Managers for Carolina Eye Group and Eye America, a member of the Education Committee for the North Carolina Optometric Society, Clinical Examiner for the NC State Board of Examiners in Optometry. Dr. Bumgarner and his wife, Katherine, have five children, six grandchildren, and live in Pinehurst.
Dr. Keel specializes in pediatric and family optometry, as well as, contact lenses and eye disease. She is originally from Fayetteville and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated with a BA degree in chemistry. She received her OD degree at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She is a member of the North Carolina Optometric Society, the American Optometric Association and the Sandhills District Optometric Society. She is a community volunteer, and active in her church. Knitting, yoga, being with family and walking her dogs are among her favorite ways to relax. She is dedicated to being a thorough professional and primary care specialist. She and her husband Koley Keel live in Pinehurst and have a daughter.
Dr. Ralph Hendrix is retiring! We are so sad to see him go but we are also very happy for him! During his time in practice, Dr. Hendrix specialized in geriatric and family optometry. Dr. Hendrix was born in Columbia, South Carolina. He attended Clemson University and graduated in 1972 from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Hendrix also had a clinic in Red Springs, NC where he has practiced optometry since 1979. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, North Carolina State Optometric Society, Sandhills District Optometric Society, and the Southport Retinal Society. Dr. Hendrix and his wife, Sara, have two children and live in Pinehurst.
